Riley Rennell (Columbia, Tennessee) joins the group tied for first heading into Saturday. With the help of hitting twelve of thirteen fairways as well as sixteen greens in regulation, Rennell only carded one birdie today on No. 9.
“You know it's a lot easier to hit (16) greens when you hit the fairways and so I was focusing on just fairways and focusing on hitting the fairways first before I hit the green and then just really focusing on where the pin location was what shot I want to hit in the green,” said Rennell. “I played really awesome I had some really good feels out there with my irons I was, I had a lot of balls inside of like 10 feet and I was just sniping it with the irons. I lipped out two putts inside of five feet for birdie and it was just like oh gosh I could have had it like really deep today but you know I'm happy with four under you know I could have done without that little thing on the par three but I'm happy yes I played really well, yeah.”
A 4-under par marks Rennell’s best round this season in seven starts. Looking to make her second cut and stay atop the leaderboard, Rennell credits her families support for getting her to where she is today.
“It comes from my team I have a really good team behind me I love my mom and my dad and they're just my support system and I couldn't do it without him. My mom's not here this week and she didn't get to come out a lot but she's seen me play a little bit and I really do it for my family and I do it for people close to me.”
