A final round 3-under par 69 performance proved to be all it took for Kim Kaufman (Clark, South Dakota) as she secured victory this afternoon at Blackthorn Club by finishing 11-under par overall in the Four Winds Invitational.
“It felt awesome, it's been five or six years since my last win, so kind of feels like my first one all over again,” said Kaufman. “It was tough out there today and competition gets better and better, so we were just super happy to stick to our game plan and have it work out useful. I feel like finally I did what I've been trying to do. I just kept the shot that I had in front of me as my only focus and not that at times you aren't thinking other things, but it paid off today.”
At Texas Tech University, Kaufman was top five in the Golfweek/Sagarin Fall 2012 Collegiate Rankings to first earn Epson Tour membership as a 2013 rookie. Competing on the road changes year to year, even with Kaufman’s seven years a professional, this weekend was a first. While today was Kaufman’s third win on the “Road to the LPGA”, it was her first with Husband, Johan Wolkesson, as her caddy.
“It's funny when you're single you don't mind being on the road. There's nothing at home. And then, you get married or in a relationship and suddenly you're like ‘I want to go home,’” said Kaufman. “To have him out here being seven weeks you don't mind it as much because I'm not dying to go home so we've had fun. But we were ready to go home.”
