Kim Kaufman (Clark, South Dakota) fired a 3-under par today, finishing 8-under par overall and taking a one-stroke lead going into Sunday. The Texas Tech alumna continues to work today towards keeping her focus on beating the course with her blinders on.
"Here, I feel more like I did in Battle Creek. I am trying to play the golf course and not other people," said Kaufman. "I did look at the leaderboard I when I turned at 18, so the back is a little harder if you kind of know where you're at in the mix, but that's it. When you can just play the course and not the other people, it's a lot less pressure and a lot less nerves."
While Kaufman has been playing tournaments for seven weeks in a row, she has not been alone. Husband, Johan Wolkesson, has been working alongside the two-time Epson Tour Champion has her caddy.
"He's my husband, not my normal caddy, but we've done enough, and we're really getting to the point where he's getting better. Twice today, he said, 'No Kim' and changed my club, and it was perfect," said Kaufman. "It takes a while to get there and feel comfortable, but with him, out here, it reminds me that no matter what happens, life is still good, and it's not the end of the world if you make a bogey."
