Caroline Inglis opened up her 2022 Epson Tour season at Longbow Golf Club on Thursday in the Carlisle Arizona Women’s Golf Classic with a 4-under par 68 to share fifth.
“It was really, really windy this morning, so I think it took a little bit out of the gate to feel comfortable with club decisions on the front nine,” said Inglis. “The first few holes were tougher because of wind.”
With the weather conditions, Inglis planned each swing accordingly.
“I only hit two drivers on the front nine, it was a lot of hybrids or 5-woods,” Inglis said. “It was just a bad swing [leading to her lone bogey of the round] on No. 2, and after that I knew I was through a couple of the harder holes. The wind died down, so birdies were more attainable.”
In the offseason, Inglis resides in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. She practices 20 miles across town at Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club. Her prep in the desert paid early dividends. A friend and fellow LPGA Tour professional Jennifer Kupcho is also housing Inglis during her Tour stop.
“I love the west coast and I actually winter here in Arizona. I’m a member at Superstition Mountain and there’s about eight of us from the LGPA Tour there. I love the west coast, some of my favorite courses are out here.”
