A familiar face on the Epson Tour will be missing from this week’s tournament in Albany, New York. Beth Wu has withdrawn from the event and will no longer be playing on the Epson Tour. Although her time as a player has come to an end, Wu will continue her golf journey in a different role – Assistant Coach for the University of Florida Women’s Golf team.
“I’ve always talked about being a coach one day after I’ve played professional golf,” said Wu. “I had a lot of time to think, and I’m at the point where I’m done with [playing] golf and I’m okay with being done. I wanted to start this new journey soon.”
Wu’s departure from the professional stage was a bittersweet decision, but she knew it was the right move for herself and her career. She says the Tour life wasn’t something that suited her anymore and is excited to bring her passion to the SEC.
“I’ve always appreciated what the Tour has done for us,” said Wu. “But I’ve always dreamt about coaching. The thing that brings me joy is to help others become better and help others excel and reach their potential or go past their potential.”
Although Wu decided to hang up her clubs, she didn’t think twice about staying in the golf industry.
“I love the game of golf,” said Wu. “I’m so interested in it, and I love to learn more about it. I always knew that when I was done playing professional golf, I was going to go to any avenue of it.”
The California native said that many jobs within the sport interested her but getting back into that team atmosphere stood out.
“College coaching fit the best for me,” said Wu. “I miss being a part of team, like when I was at UCLA. That stuff was super fun for me, and I really enjoyed it.”
The Gators’ newest addition recorded four Epson Tour career top-10 finishes, including 2nd place finishes at the 2021 Donald Ross Classic at French Lick Resort and Garden City Charity Classic presented by Buffalo Dunes.
