After taking a break from the Tour due to COVID-19, Prima Thammaraks (Bangkok, Thailand) is back in the United States for the 2021 season and making her third start on the Epson Tour since 2019. Carding a first-round 3-under par 69, she finds herself tied for third with five other players and one-stroke back from the lead going into Saturday.
“I played my practice round in the cold rain, so the back-nine definitely felt a bit easier today than it did then,” said Thammaraks. “I think the course was set up pretty fair today. I hit some really good shots on the back and took advantage of it. But I can understand why the scores aren’t too low with the pins being hard. It is playing a bit long.”
In 2018, Thammaraks placed T3 in the Epson Classic. While the tournament was cut to 36-holes due to weather, she was still able to look back at her previous starts in Davidson.
“I think playing the course before helped with more of my mental game, especially when it’s a course you know you can play well. I also have always had a really warm welcome here, the community is really nice, so just coming into it I am excited and want to play here and that makes a difference.”
