With a 6-under 66 in the second round of the inaugural Casino Del Sol Golf Classic, Roberta Liti (Siena, Italy) climbed the leaderboard after 36 holes and heads into the final round tied for first in Tucson, Ariz. Liti carded eagles on both No. 6 and 8 today to help her finish –9 overall.
“I kind of had a slow start made a birdie on the first hole and then I made a double. Then I just kept hitting one shot at a time. Honestly, I had no clue where I was at. I was making doubles, birdies and eagles so I just kept playing and didn’t look at the leaderboard and kept doing my thing,” said Liti. “Both times I hit the fairway and had about 190 yards in on No. 6 and 185 yards in on No. 8. The first time I hit it to four feet and made the putt. The second time I hit it to 18 feet and also made the putt.”
The Arizona State University (ASU) Sundevil is competing this week in Wildcat territory. This is not the three-time Pac-12 All-Academic First Team member’s first time competing at Sewailo Golf Club. From the inner-state collegiate rivalry to experiencing desert golf once again since her time at ASU, Liti is embracing it all on the third week of the “Road to the LPGA.”
“We played here twice. We didn’t play great both times, but it is always a good memory to look back at college. Mostly coming out here being in enemy territory, the rivalry really exists, so it’s fun to come out here and make sure my Sundevil prides exists,” said Liti. “I know that it’s important to hit good shots off the tee because you are either going to be in the fairway or the desert. Knowing that that is the most important really helps.”
