Following two missed cuts to start the season Lisa Pettersson (Taby, Sweden) found her groove on Thursday at Sewailo Golf Club and goes into tomorrow one stroke back from the lead at 5-under par 67. Tied with three other players, Pettersson mentions how she used the two weeks between tournaments to find the fresh perspective she approached the first round of the Casino Del Sol Golf Classic with.
“I didn’t play very good in the first two events. I took the two weeks off to practice and figure everything out,” said Pettersson. “I actually played one of the Cactus Tour events to get some practice tournaments in and to come back here with some new energy.
“I feel like I have been hitting good shots and not hitting any putts the first two events and today was totally different. I just decided to trust what I see and not think so much and that turned out good today.”
The desert winds in Tucson, Ariz. picked up while Pettersson was in the middle of her round. Using the morning to her advantage, Pettersson had a bogey-free front nine and closed the round out draining a near 50-foot putt for birdie on No. 18.
“Honestly, I was just thinking let’s get a two putt and sign the score card and be happy with today” said Pettersson. “I knew it was going to break a little and actually when I hit it, I thought I hit it too much and it was going to go off the green so I am very happy that it when in the hole. Very lucky.
“We teed off so early so there was almost no wind in the beginning, which is almost a little different because it had been so windy in the practice rounds. A lot of the par-5’s that were short the other days turned out a little different from the tees but I just kept giving myself good chances and made a lot of putts today.”
