Morgane Metraux is no stranger to coming down the line on the final round on the Epson Tour. Earlier this year, Metraux carded a third-round -7 to take the lead going into the final round of the Casino Del Sol Golf Classic. Ultimately, she lost in a one-hole playoff to current Race for the Card No. 1 Ruixin Liu. Tomorrow, Metraux will play in the final pairing again, this time fighting from three strokes behind.
“My putting was really working well. I holed a lot of mid-range to long range putts. That doesn’t happen every day so that was nice,” said Metraux. “Last tournament I wasn’t putting well so I worked on that a lot last week, so my stroke was a lot better and my pace and reads just seemed to be working today.”
Metraux’s second round was highlighted by nine birdies and no bogeys. She attributed the successful day, which helped her climb 10 spots on the leaderboard, to her putting. After she closed the day with back-to-back birdies on No. 17 and 18, playing partner Regina Plasencia showed respect by “cooling down” Metraux’s putter with a quick rub.
“They are great, we had a great time on the course. All of us didn’t have a caddie so it really just us today and had a good time chatting a big. We were encouraging eachother as well so that was fun,” said Metraux.
