Five birdies from Kyung Kim (Chandler, Arizona) in the first round of the Garden City Charity Classic led to a 5-under par 67 and a one-shot lead after day one at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course. The bogey-free round also consisted of hitting twelve of fourteen fairways.
“It was a pretty consistent round. I hit a lot of greens today which I haven’t done in a while, so it feels good,” said Kim. “Every year at this golf course I really just try to hit fairways and greens out here because I know the rough can get a bit thick. Also, knowing where the wind blows and when to hit it short because of its firmness has helped over the years.”
This week is Kim’s third start on the Epson Tour in 2021 and has not missed a cut yet. She also had one start this year on the LPGA Tour at the LOTTE Championship where she made the cut and finished the week T64.
“LOTTE was really fun,” said Kim. “I had not been back to Hawaii in almost ten years, so it was great to be back and see some close friends and family. It made for a great week. I had a good friend on the bag, fortunately he had played the course and was able to help me with green reading and the wind.”
