She’s hungry and focused, which means Jennifer Kupcho has only one thing on her mind: winning.
At the halfway point of the ISPS Handa World Invitational presented by Modest! Golf Management, the Wake Forest University alumna is 10-under par overall and three shots out of the lead. She worked her way around Massereene Golf Club on Friday to the tune of four birdies for a steady 3-under 69 in the second round.
“I think it’s really about getting into contention a lot,” said Kupcho, the 2020 Colorado Women’s Open champion. “Learning something from every experience, I’ve definitely learned a lot in my few years out here on Tour. Going to take that into the weekend [at Galgorm].
“I’m playing well. Near the top, but I came here to win. Going to keep doing my best. There’s lots of golf left and I just need to keep my head in it.”
One of those experiences, the Drive On Championship presented by Volvik at Golden Ocala, occurred earlier this year in March. Kupcho shared the 18- and 36-hole leads and eventually finished runner-up in central Florida, the third such result of her young career (2019 Amundi Evian Championship and 2020 ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer).
“I think playing well at the Drive On Championship, I learn from every tournament and especially any time I’m in contention, so I’m looking forward to taking that into this weekend,” Kupcho said. “I focus on shot by shot, trying to play my best. I have been playing well this week and am looking forward to taking it into the weekend.”
Another week on the LPGA Tour, and it’s business as usual for a competitor with an astounding tenacity and an insatiable desire to taste victory.
