After day one of the third annual Prasco Charity Championship in Maineville, Ohio, Vicky Hurst (Melbourne, Florida) is tied for the lead after an opening round of -5. The eight-time Epson Tour Champion is a fan of the challenge that TPC River’s Bend offers to the Tour this weekend.
“I think this is one of the tougher courses we play all year,” said Hurst. “It’s in my opinion one of the best courses that we play, so coming into this week a lot of the strategy I had in my mind was to play safe, not to be too aggressive, and take my birdies chances when I can get them. I think I did that today, I played pretty steady, and I stuck with my game plan.”
The 2011 Team USA Solheim Cup player recorded two top-10 results in 2020, including a season-best T5 at the Mission Inn Resort & Club Championship. After missing three cuts early this year, she is looking to make her fourth in a row this weekend. With the help of seven birdies today, including a 46-footer on No. 15, she looks to continue the positive momentum into Saturday.
“It was a downhill long right-to-left breaker and I was just trying to put it within 5 feet. It hit a great roll, hit my spot that I was looking at and went in,” said Hurst of her birdie on the 15th hole. “I fixed my swing after Copper Rock so I am hitting the ball a lot better, so I have a lot more confidence off the tees. I also got to work with my coach, Scott Hamilton, and I just feel a lot better and over all am playing good.”
