PRATTVILLE, Ala. — The 17th stop on the 2021 “Road to the LPGA” takes the Symetra Tour to the Senator Course at Capitol Hill on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in the Heart of Dixie for the fourth annual Guardian Championship, September 17-19.
“With only four tournaments remaining for the 2021 season, we are excited to return to the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Capitol Hill for the Guardian Championship," said Mike Nichols, Chief Business Officer of the LPGA Qualifying Tours. "The RTJ Trail has been an incredible friend to the LPGA for many years, so it seems appropriate that we start this final stretch for the 10 LPGA cards along with Guardian Credit Union who continues to lead by example with their support of these amazing female athletes.”
Greeting the 120-player field in Prattville is a total purse of $175,000. Individuals are set to compete in a 54-hole stroke play event with a cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes. The winner’s share for the event is $26,250.
“This season on the Symetra Tour has been incredible to follow and has only built up the anticipation for us to host the Guardian Championship,” said Bonnie Coleman, Guardian Championship Tournament Director. “Having named champions like Kendall Dye, Lindsey Weaver and Laura Restrepo is an honor we don’t take lightly. And we couldn’t be more excited to add another name to the list and follow them on their dream to compete on the LPGA Tour.”
Defending champion Laura Restrepo (Panama City, Panama) is among the competitors. The win in central Alabama was her first career win. Restrepo claimed two more top-10 finishes this season in T8 at the Mission Inn Resort and Club Championship and T10 at the Donald Ross Classic at French Lick Resort.
“I am so excited to come back to Prattville after last year’s unfortunate cancellation due to Covid-19,” said Restrepo. “To come back to an event as a past champion is very meaningful to me because winning is such a hard feat to accomplish in our sport. I will forever hold the memories of having my mom caddying for me and shooting one of my career best rounds of 64 on Sunday! This is my favorite course we play on the Symetra Tour calendar. I am going to feed off the great memories and confidence I have here to have a great week.”
