Trailing the lead by three shots is Amanda Doherty (Atlanta, Georgia) following a 1-under 70. She heads into Sunday in central Florida at 7-under overall.
“It feels pretty good looking at the leaderboard right now. Overall, I was hitting the ball well. It was just a couple of bad shots all stacked together for two holes in a row,” said Doherty. “There are a couple uncomfortable tee shots, some of them are pretty tight and one of them was one of my bad holes today. But, I am putting well, so that also helped the day end up pretty good.”
The Florida State University alumna played her first two rounds with MacLaren and will join her in the final pairing tomorrow at Alaqua Country Club.
“I like Meghan, the last two days have been fun,” said Doherty. “When somebody else in your group is also in contention, I feel like you are kind of pushing each other a little bit throughout the rounds, so it should be fun tomorrow too.”
Doherty goes into tomorrow with three career top 10s including a tied for fifth finish at the 2020 IOA Golf Classic.
“Top-10 is always a good thing. Obviously, you want to win, and that would be awesome. I have a little work to do tomorrow, would have to come back by a few shots,” Doherty said. “Historically, I have played a little bit better coming from behind rather than going into the last day with the lead. A few tournaments come to mind, but it happened both years when I won the Sally [South Atlantic Amateur].”
