On the second playoff hole, Casey Danielson (Osceola, Wisconsin) made birdie on No. 18 and was named a champion on the “Road to the LPGA” for the first time in her career. Danielson carded a final round 3-under par 69 on Sunday, including a birdie on No. 18 in regulation to force a playoff with Fatima Fernandez Cano, who shot 1-over par 73 on Sunday.
Danielson’s win helped her climb seventeen spots in the rankings for the “Race for the Card” and is now No. 5 with $36,762.
“I don’t know if it has really set in yet, but I am really excited, especially to win the Epson Classic and be able to represent Epson and the Tour,” said Danielson. “I really love this golf course here at River Run (Country Club). It’s really peaceful and it was a lot of fun with all the people watching especially in the playoff.”
“I don’t think I have the words to thank my friends and family and team who have supported me along the way. My family is just a huge support system to me. I have an older sister and brother who both played golf and their super supportive. My dad taught me how to play and my mom is kind of my manager, so they are definitely part of my team,” said Danielson. “Huge shoutout to WorkDay for supporting me right out of the gate right when I turned pro, I couldn’t have gotten started without their support.”
The Stanford University NCAA Champion has a quick turnaround as the Tour travels to Florida for the next two weeks. Danielson heads into the IOA Golf Classic where she previously finished T3 last year and T9 in 2019.
“I am really excited to be going back to the Orlando area. I have played at Alaqua a few times now and it always fun to go back there. It’s a really great course and a really great event, so I am looking forward to it.
