The Symetra Tour may have had the week off prior to traveling to the Island Resort Championship, but Savannah Vilaubi (Downey, California) flew up to Denver, CO and won the 27th CoBank Colorado Women’s Open. She went into the event following a T2 finish at the Mission Inn Resort and Club Championship.
“It was just a week where everything came together. It seemed like the spiritual, physical and mental everything was finally coming together. I felt like there was good momentum that I created and there was something good brewing. Taking that over to Colorado and seeing those results is something really really special,” said Vilaubi.
Last year, Vilaubi made seven cuts in eight starts with two top-10 finishes. Outside of the Symetra Tour, Vilaubi won the 2016 Texas Women’s Open, as well as multiple events on the Cactus Tour. This week she is looking to claim her first win on the Road to the LPGA and said the growth on her mental side of the game has helped her find recent success on the golf course.
“I really enjoy reading and picking up new material to learn something and make myself better. Inner Excellence is an excellent book that I picked up that was recommended to me by Alexis Belton,” said Vilaubi. “This biggest difference that’s been made in my spiritual and mental journey with golf and life has been my mental coaches Bo Watson and Shannon Shusky who run the School of Lifetime Low Rounds. I have learned a wealth of information from them. How to manage myself emotionally and how to separate what I do from who I am. It takes s a long time but it’s good to have conversations about it.”
