TUCSON, Ariz. — The third stop on the 2021 “Road to the LPGA” takes the Symetra Tour to Sewailo Golf Club in the Grand Canyon State for the inaugural Casino Del Sol Golf Classic from April 15-18.
"We are so thrilled to host the future stars of the LPGA Tour next week," said Kim Van Amburg, Casino Del Sol Chief Executive Officer. “Supporting women in sports is incredibly meaningful to us and we’re excited to welcome these talented ladies to our award-winning Sewailo Golf Club. We can’t wait to see who will raise the trophy up Sunday afternoon.”
Greeting the 120-player field in Tucson, Ariz., is a total purse of $200,000. Individuals are set to compete in a 72-hole stroke play format with a cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes. The winner’s share for the event is $30,000.
"The 41st Symetra Tour season kicked off with the two strongest fields we have had in the history of the tour. Next week, we couldn’t be more excited to continue on with one of our new title sponsors Casino Del Sol,” said Mike Nichols, the Chief Business Officer of LPGA Qualifying Tours. “With their incredible support, this event is one of eight events that our members will be competing for $200,000 or more this season.”
Sewailo Golf Club was designed by Ty Butler, as well as Native American and former PGA TOUR professional Notah Begay III. It is recognized as one of the top golf experiences in Arizona, public or private, and is home to the University of Arizona men’s and women’s golf teams. Symetra Tour member and Wildcats alumna Brittany Benvenuto (Langhorne, PA) is looking forward to return to playing the desert course where she has found success before.
“Tucson has been like a second home to me since graduating from University of Arizona. There is a great golf community here, too, that’s kind of a well-kept secret and it’s fun to be a part of that as a former Wildcat,” said Benvenuto. “My swing coach, Susie Meyers, a fellow University of Arizona graduate and former LPGA Tour player, lives here as well and it’s always fun to spend the week with her and her family.”
Action gets underway at 7:00 a.m. PT all four days with playing starting off No. 1 and No. 10 tees in each round. A trophy presentation on No. 18 green is set to follow final round play.
