Epson Tour professional Natalie Sheary (New Britain, Connecticut) returns for Episode 3 of a weekly instructional series, “Staying Sharp with Sheary.” A Wake Forest University alumna and past Epson Tour champion at the 2016 W.B. Mason Championship, Sheary provides advice and drills to keep your game sharp—both physically and mentally—while at home.
“Positive thinking should begin off the course and this is a great time to work on that,” Sheary said. “We are all doing the most, given the current circumstances. As long as we do what we can, when it is time to return to the golf course or the Tour, we can have a positive mentality that we prepared to the best of our ability.”
Sheary’s lesson this week focuses on the recovery shot and breaking down the swing technique to get out of a tough situation during the round. While many are still unable to practice at a course, this guidance is a reminder to learn about different shot types and how to execute.

Paying close attention to making good contact in the rough is an important factor, as is stance, shortening of the swing and keeping the ball low. Sheary brings all these pieces together to give insight to how she approaches challenging scenarios.
“Trusting yourself is key,” added Sheary. “As long as you have solid effort and are deliberate in your training, then when something doesn’t go your way during competition there is a sense of positivity since you worked hard in practice and given yourself the best chance to execute.”
