HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. The eighth stop on the 2020 “Road to the LPGA” takes the Epson Tour to Mission Inn Resort and Club in the Sunshine State for the first-annual Mission Inn Resort and Club Championship presented by Insurance Office of America (IOA) from October 15-17.
“The Mission Inn Resort staff and I could not be more excited to be working with the Epson Tour,” said Bud Beucher, General Manager at Mission Inn Resort & Club. “Each year we have heard how incredibly talented these young ladies are and about all the hard work they put into earning their LPGA cards. We couldn’t be more thrilled to host them and help to provide another opportunity to compete in 2020.”
Greeting the 84-player field in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. is a total purse of $125,000. Individuals are set to compete in a 54-hole stroke play format with a cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes. The winner’s share for the event is $18,750.
“We are proud to add the award-winning Mission Inn Resort and Club to the schedule this year,” said Mike Nichols, the Chief Business Officer of the Epson Tour. “Through the continued support of Insurance Office of America, and new partners in the Greater Orlando Sports Commission, Keiser University College of Golf and Advent Health, our inaugural tournament on the championship El Campeón course will be a stern test as our members challenge for the five LPGA Tour memberships and U.S. Women's Open berths at stake.”
Mission Inn Resort & Club has welcomed more than 20 NCAA Championships to its two courses, as well as numerous U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur qualifiers. The Mission Inn Resort & Club Championship presented by IOA will mark the first LPGA Tour family event contested on the George O’Neil-designed track, El Campeón, which celebrates 103 years of golf history. It is also the third tournament with ties to IOA on the 2020 “Road to the LPGA.” They serve as the title sponsor for the IOA Championship presented by Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Beaumont, Calif., from Aug. 21-23, and the IOA Classic presented by HomeValue.com in Longwood, Fla., from Sept. 25-27.
“I’m really fortunate the past two events have been here in central Florida and one more has been added to our schedule at Mission Inn Resort and Club. It’s so convenient to have three events in a row that are basically in my backyard,” said Sierra Brooks (Orlando, Florida). “I have a lot of memories at Mission Inn from losing the state championship in a playoff to Simen Feng my freshman year, to finally winning a state championship there my junior year. I’m looking forward to teeing it up at there again as a pro.”
First, second and final round action gets underway at 8:00 a.m. ET. Play will begin from No. 1 and No. 10 tees for the first two rounds and all off of No. 1 on Sunday.
