LONGWOOD, Fla. — The sixth stop on the 2020 “Road to the LPGA” takes the Symetra Tour to Alaqua Country Club in the Sunshine State for the seventh annual IOA Golf Classic presented by HomeValue.com from September 25-27.
“It feels great to be entering the second half of the 40th Symetra Tour season,” said Mike Nichols, the Chief Business Officer of the Symetra Tour. “IOA has been tremendously supportive sponsor for several years now and the IOA Golf Classic is the second of three events they will host this year. We couldn’t be more appreciative of the work they have done with us to help grow the Tour time and time again.”
The 108-player field will compete for a total purse of $150,000 in a 54-hole stroke play format with a cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes. The winner’s share for the event is $22,500.
“We are looking forward to hosting another great week of professional women’s golf for our second Symetra Tour event this year,” said Insurance Office of America (IOA) Chairman and CEO Heath Ritenour. “From the west to east coast, we are grateful for each tournament to have the opportunity to expand our brand with a recognizable and growing professional sports organization with similar values we practice at IOA.”
Defending champion Marta Sanz Barrio (Spain) is not among the competitors in the field. She finished No. 13 in the 2019 Volvik Race for the Card with $67,244. The victory in central Florida was the second for Sanz Barrio, one of four top-5s she had last year.
“I was so excited to win my second Symetra Tour tournament last year at Alaqua Golf Club. I have some great memories and have always had a nice and fun week in Longwood,” said Sanz Barrio. “I am very thankful that IOA has continued putting all their efforts into supporting the Road to the LPGA and women’s golf, especially during such uncertain times.”
Action gets underway at 7:45 a.m. ET all three days with play starting off Nos. 1 and 10 tees in the first and second rounds. Groups will start on No. 1 tee in twosomes for the final round with a trophy presentation to follow on the 18th green.
