PINEHURST, NC — The ninth stop on the 2020 “Road to the LPGA” takes the Epson Tour to Pinehurst No. 9 in the Tar Heel State for the inaugural Carolina Golf Classic presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina from October 28-31.
“Hosting a tournament at Pinehurst No. 9 for the future stars of the LPGA Tour is something really special for us. We are honored to work with the Tour in providing the opportunity to a group of very talented golfers to showcase their hard work and elite skill level on this year's schedule,” said Ben Bridgers, Director of Golf at Pinehurst Resort. “We are excited for everyone to arrive next week and look forward to seeing who will be holding the trophy come Saturday.”
Greeting the 84-player field in Riverside County is a total purse of $200,000. Individuals are set to compete in a 72-hole stroke play format with a cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes. The winner’s share for the event is $30,000.
“We are excited to conclude the 40th Epson Tour season with back-to-back events in North Carolina,” said Mike Nichols, the Chief Business Officer of the Epson Tour. “We are particularly grateful to organizations like BlueCross BlueShield North Carolina, who has joined our efforts this year to support our mission of empowering our female athletes to pursue their dreams of playing on the LPGA Tour.”
North Carolina native, Laura Wearn (Charlotte, North Carolina) is among the competitors. She claimed her third Epson Tour win this year at the IOA Golf Classic. The Furman University alumna is currently No. 11 in the Volvik Race for the Card.
“It’s so exciting to play the last couple of tournaments in North Carolina. Pinehurst is a Mecca for golf and it’s awesome that we have the opportunity to play there,” said Wearn. “We rarely have the chance to compete close to my home so it’s going to be a great way to finish the season.”
Action for all four rounds get underway at 8:30 a.m. ET off No. 1 and No. 10 tees. The trophy presentation will follow play on Saturday on the back lawn.
