MEADOW EARNS VOLVIK RACE FOR THE CARD “MOVE OF THE WEEK”
Even though Stephanie Meadow (Jordanstown, Northern Ireland) lost in a sudden-death playoff at the Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic on Sunday, she still collected $14,136 to jump five spots in the Volvik Race for the Card to No. 2 and earn our “Move of the Week.”
Meadow has racked up seven top-10 finishes so far this season, including a win in the IOA Championship presented by Morongo Casino Resort & Spa.
“There’s a lot of work left to do, but I’m excited about where my game is at,” said Meadow, a former four-time First Team All-American for the University of Alabama. “Things can change quickly out here so I have to keep grinding and hopefully take the pressure off the last few events This is exactly where I wanted to be.”
Holding down the No. 1 position for a second straight week is Dottie Ardina (Laguna, Philippines). A tied for 32nd result in Rochester, N.Y., increased her season money total to $59,672 through eight starts.
Meanwhile, behind Meadow is three individuals who all dropped one spot. Jenny Haglund (Karlstad, Sweden) checks in at No. 3 after taking last week off and won’t be back in action on the Epson Tour until the PHC Classic at Brown Deer Park Golf Course in Milwaukee, Wis., from Aug. 10-12. The all-time scoring average leader for Southern Methodist University (SMU) is set to compete in the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open from July 26-29 and Ricoh Women’s British Open from Aug. 2-5.
A pair of 2018 Epson Tour champions slot in after Haglund, with Isi Gabsa (Munich, Germany) having earned $48,278 in 12 events played and Ruixin Liu (Dalian, China) at $42,355 following a tied for 15th finish at Brook-Lea Country Club.
The second half of the top-10 welcomes newcomer Eun Jeong Seong (Yongin, Republic of Korea), who makes her Volvik Race for the Card top-10 debut at No. 6, jumping 20 places in the standings. A rookie, Seong has made $42,281 in her first seven career Epson Tour starts.
“I’m now on the money list top-10 and hopefully I am going to the LPGA Tour next year,” Seong said after her first professional victory at the Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic. “After the win, it’s very good for me.”
Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Illinois) and Stephanie Kono (Honolulu, Hawaii) each move down two positions to No. 7 and No. 8, respectively. With $40,274 amassed, Szokol holds a $1,026 advantage over Kono. Rounding out the top-10 is Karen Chung (Livingston, N.J.) and Vicky Hurst (Melbourne, Florida), both down one spot from last week.
The official qualifying tour of the LPGA now heads to Albany, N.Y., for the Fuccillo Kia Classic of NY from July 27-29 at Capital Hills of Albany.
“I worked hard to be here and I’m excited to continue seeing what I can do for the rest of the season,” said Meadow. “I know if I continue to put myself in contention, I’ll have a great shot of winning again and maintaining my place in the top-10."
