Kaylin Yost, who is hearing impaired and wears hearing aids while playing on Tour, had to battle on Wednesday but ultimately defeated Diksha Dagar of India 1 Up on the 19th hole to win the gold medal at the Deaflympics in Turkey. This was the first year that the Deaflympics included golf.
“To win the gold at the inaugural Deaflympics for golf is special,” said Yost, when reached by text. “I’m thrilled to win gold, but even more happy with the way I fought.”
Yost was three down after six holes. She won holes seven, eight and nine to level the match at the turn. She was one down through 16. They both made birdie on hole 17 so she was one down to 18. Yost made birdie on 18 to square the match and then won on the first extra hole.
Yost will travel back from Turkey and is playing next week in Milwaukee at the PHC Classic on the Epson Tour.
She has played in four Epson Tour events in 2017 since returning to the sport after taking the 2016 season off to pursue other opportunities. She took a full-time job at JetSmarter.
Yost played college golf at Campbell and was a rookie on the Epson Tour in 2015. She grabbed headlines this year when she Monday Qualified for the Bank of Hope Founders Cup on the LPGA and made the cut.
