Daniela Iacobelli (Melbourne, Florida) shot a 4-under, 67 and came within inches of securing her first win on the Symetra Tour in 2017.
After a back nine that saw her sink birdies on 12, 13, 14 and 16, Iacobelli stepped to the 18th tee 9-under and holding a one stroke lead over Nanna Koerstz Madsen.
By the time both her and Koerstz Madsen had exited the green, fortunes had flipped and it was Koerstz Madsen who held the one shot lead at 8-under.
“I had a putt on Friday that I left four feet short and I didn’t want to do it again, so I gave it a little gas,” Iacobelli mentioned in regard to her four-putt, double-bogey that saw her drop to 7-under and lose the lead. “On the 7-footer coming back, I probably didn’t respect it enough and there was the 3-footer that just got the edge and didn’t fall. It is what it is. Lessons. That’s all golf is right? Lessons.”
While the outcome wasn’t what she wanted, she was still happy with how she played this week, especially on the back nine during today’s final round.
“I hit some really good shots coming in, I enjoyed the back nine a lot.”
At the end of the day, she will take with her more than just over $10,000 in prize money.
“I made some putts this week that were just phenomenal. There hasn’t been that many times where I have been in contention out here, so it is nice to get the butterflies.”
With her finish, Iacobelli moved from 19th to 9th on the Volvik Race to the Card money list with $22,061 earned in eight starts.
