Ally McDonald and Laura Gonzalez Escallon both finished strong at The Evian Championship on Sunday. McDonald closed at 1-under and a tie for 30th while Gonzalez Escallon finished at 5-over and T55.
“The greens here are some of the most undulated greens I’ve ever played so it has been a really good experience and I have a lot of positives to take away,” said McDonald. “I wanted a top 30, I felt like that was a good goal and I could have surpassed it, but I met my mark.”
“The course played really, really hard today with the rain,” said Gonzalez Escallon. “I’m really happy to end with a 1-over and the experience was unbelievable. I enjoyed every second of being with my coach, my family and being back in France.”
McDonald said she will play the Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout and the Epson Tour Championship. She still has one goal to accomplish.
“Two events left for me, I’d really love to win,” said McDonald. “I think my game is there, it just is now putting it together and seeing the results I want.”
Gonzalez Escallon, who did not play the second Garden City event and slid from 10th to 11th on the money list will need to battle for an LPGA card.
“Now that I’ve played an LPGA event, I love it,” said Gonzalez Escallon. “I really want to play well (on Epson Tour) and use whatever I learned here.”
McDonald, who was paired with Lexi Thompson on Sunday, will take a lot of confidence from her strong finish.
“I feel like I can compete out here and win events if I can put everything together,” said McDonald. “You have to post really, really good scores out here. I’ll take this experience and grow and bring it to the finish of the Epson Tour season and on the LPGA next year.”
McDonald and Gonzalez Escallon qualified for The Evian Championship by finishing in the top two at the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship in Battle Creek, Michigan.
