Story No. 1 – Top 10 Take Plunge into Pool at LPGA International
It has become a nice year-end tradition at LPGA International. The ten players that finish inside the top 10 on the Volvik Race for the Card money list take the plunge into the pool at LPGA International. Once Scott Miller, the Symetra Tour’s photographer is in position, the players take a few steps together and then jump in.
It’s a cool scene. Family, friends and fellow Tour competitors watch from the balcony above the pool while the ten that have worked so hard since February get to run and jump and take the splash that every single Symetra Tour player wants at the start of the year.
The final day is a really long process. After play is complete there is the Volvik Race for the Card final ceremony, which is spectacularly produced. Then, the players are escorted back outside for pictures. So, the plunge is the last memory the players have.
After the players get out of the pool and grab their robes, LPGA Tour commissioner Mike Whan proposed a toast and officially welcomed the ten graduates to the LPGA.
In Marissa’s Words…
I was ALL smiles when I heard the 10 Symetra Tour graduates were going to get to jump in the pool at LPGA International. For me, it was the perfect culmination of what has been my most memorable year in golf to date. The jump into the pool symbolized all of the joy of seeing hard work pay off and realizing my dream of making it to the LPGA Tour… And I still wear the robe quite often J
In Jackie’s Words…
I joked this year that I was a Super Senior and needed 5 years to graduate from the Symetra Tour. I had watched the card ceremonies the last few years and saw the pictures of the plunge into the pool. I was so excited to finally be a part of that and jump into a pool of what felt like success. It was also a great way to cool down after a long and crazy week! I think it's an awesome tradition and I feel lucky to have been a part of it in 2014.
