DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA – Fresh off a solo second finish at the Epson Classic in Charlotte, Epson Tour member Emily Talley is spending her off week playing in the ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer. She received a sponsor exemption into the field through her victory in last year’s Golf Channel reality series Big Break NFL.
The ShopRite LPGA Classic will be Talley’s second career LPGA Tour event.
“It’s not that big of a pressure situation for sure,” Talley told the Napa Valley Register. “This is just for fun and just for the experience. I’m going to see some friends of mine who are up on the LPGA and to just play as best I can. But I’m really not expecting anything.
Talley recently jumped from 21st to ninth on the Epson Tour Volvik Race for the Card money list. She has three top-10 finishes this year and has accumulated $20,161.
At the Epson Classic, Talley fired a 67-68 on the final two days to jump past the competition into second place.
The 23-year-old started the season with two top-10 finishes in the first three events. She placed in a tie for third at the Visit Mesa Gateway Classic at Longbow Golf Club and finished in a tie for eighth at the Florida’s Natural Charity Classic.
Talley is having a breakthrough year on Tour. In her rookie season last year, Talley had just one top-10 finish.
“Overall, I’m really happy with how I’ve been playing,” said Talley. “I just have a lot of confidence. I’m reading putts in a more aggressive way. It’s been a lot of fun being a little bit more aggressive out on the golf course.”
The top-10 on the Epson Tour money list at the end of the year will receive their LPGA Tour cards for the 2015 season.
Talley will tee off in the first-round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer on Friday, May 30 at 12:33 p.m. from the tenth tee.
