DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA – The Epson Tour, the Road to the LPGA, is coming to Sarasota for the Guardian Retirement Championship at Sara Bay from April 25-27. As part of the “Outside the Ropes” initiative, two Epson Tour golfers will make an appearance at Booker Middle School on Thursday, April 24 at noon to talk to students about the importance of education and life of a professional athlete.
Future LPGA Tour stars Margarita Ramos and Marta Silva will be at Booker Middle School.
Ramos, who was born in Mexico City, Mexico, played college golf at the University of Arizona and is in her second year on the Epson Tour. She has one top-10 finish on Tour this season at the Visit Mesa Gateway Classic at Longbow Golf Club when she placed in a tie for eighth. Following the 2009-10 season at Arizona, she was named to the NGCA All-America Scholar Team.
Silva, who was born in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, played her college golf at the University of Georgia and is in her second year on the Epson Tour. In 2011, Silva received the Honda Award, given annually to the top college golfer in the country. Silva has two career top-10 finishes on the Epson Tour.
“When we come to a market for a golf tournament, we want to leave an indelible mark on the community through Outside the Ropes events like this,” said Chief Business Officer Mike Nichols. “Our athletes are great ambassadors and role models for the next generation.”
Ramos and Silva will take part in a panel discussion and also answer questions from students.
“Booker Middle School is excited to host two Tour golfers at Booker Middle School for a panel discussion,” said Derek Jenkins, Assistant Principal. “The Epson Tour golfers will talk to Booker Middle School students about a variety of topics related to character, education and what it takes to play golf both collegiately and professionally.”
