DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., September 25, 2014 – The Epson Tour, the Road to the LPGA, and Tour sponsor Penske are excited to announce that Min Lee (Taoyuan County, Taiwan) won the Penske Total Driving Experience award while Rebecca Artis (Coonabarabran, Australia) won the Penske Driving Accuracy Advantage award. Both players were honored on Sunday during the Volvik Race for the Card ceremony at LPGA International.
“We are pleased to be the Official Equipment Truck Supplier for the Epson Tour and would like to congratulate Rebecca and Min for their driving accomplishments.” said Dave Baptisti, Manager National Rental Programs, Penske.
Lee and Artis will each receive $500.
Lee finished the year 13th on Tour in driving distance (254.236) and 31st in driving accuracy (77.3%). She finished fifth on the Volvik Race for the Card money list and will be playing full-time on the LPGA Tour next year.
“I’m excited to win the Penske award for Total Driving Experience because I really worked hard on my distance and accuracy,” said 19-year-old Lee. “Driving distance and accuracy is even more important on the LPGA Tour and I look forward to working hard in the offseason to improve.”
Artis was third on Tour in driving accuracy at 87.1 percent. Her frequency in the fairways allowed her to also rank fourth on Tour in greens in regulation (76.8). The 25-year-old finished 26th on the Volvik Race for the Card money list and is exempt to Stage III of Qualifying Tournament in early December.
“The importance of driving it straight allows me to place the ball in specific positions on the fairway from the tee to give me access to all hole locations,” said Artis. “Hitting a high percentage of fairways gives me the advantage of controlling the spin and distance of my ball particularly with courses that have various plateaus on the greens where you have to be able to get your ball onto the correct level to have birdie chances. I'm also working on trying to increase my distance without loosing my accuracy.”
Artis still has hopes of playing on the LPGA Tour in 2015. If she finishes inside the top-20 at Stage III of Qualifying Tournament, she will have category 12 Status on the LPGA Tour for 2015.
