Kono recorded three top-20 finishes during stretch on Epson Tour
RICHMOND, VIRGINIA, August 13, 2014 – LPGA Epson Tour golfer Stephanie Kono (Honolulu, HI) won the second Volvik Drive Further Performance Award and therefore recently received an iPad Air courtesy of Volvik.
Volvik, the official golf ball of the Epson Tour, rewards the top Volvik player an iPad based on performance during four series of events.
Kono, who ranks 41st on the Volvik Race for the Card money list, finished inside the top-40 in four of the five events and inside the top-20 in three of five in the last series. Kono’s best finish was a tie for ninth at the Island Resort Championship in Harris, Mich. She also finished in a tie for 11th at the Decatur-Forsyth Classic in Decatur, Ill.
“I am really excited and thankful about receiving my iPad from Volvik,” said Kono. “I feel very fortunate to be an ambassador for such a high quality brand that supports the Epson Tour and all of our dreams of playing on the LPGA Tour.”
The 24-year-old played college golf at UCLA. She ended the 2010-11 season ranked 14th in the country by GolfWeek. Kono was also a first-team All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association.
"This year, Stephanie has proven that her dream of playing on the LPGA Tour will indeed come true," said Jon Claffey, National Director of Sales and Marketing for Volvik. "She has been one of the most consistent Volvik Ambassadors on the Epson Tour this year and we are proud to have such a shining example of professionalism, fun and hard work on our staff of future stars that play on the Road to the LPGA. She definitely deserves this award."
Volvik ambassador Jean Chua won the first iPad for her play from the Volvik Championship in Los Angeles, Calif. through the Friends of Mission Charity Classic in Asheville, N.C.
The Epson Tour season is winding down with just four events left. This week, Kono will tee off at the Eagle Classic presented by Bag Boy in Richmond, Va. The top-10 on the Volvik Race for the Card money list at the end of the year will receive their LPGA Tour cards for 2015.
