LAKE WALES, FLORIDA – The Epson Tour, the official Road to the LPGA, visited the First Tee of Lakeland on Tuesday to give back to area junior golfers. Two area professionals, Jackie Stoelting and Emily Flanigan Motta along with amateur Athena Yang conducted a junior clinic with approximately 40 school-aged golfers.
Stoelting and Motta both played college golf at nearby Florida Southern College while Yang is currently a 16-year-old amateur at Winter Haven High School.
All three will play in the 2014 Florida’s Natural Charity Classic, which begins on Friday, March 21 at Lake Wales Country Club.
“I think it’s great to share our passion with the kids and just let them know that golf is about having fun,” said Motta. “It’s a great sport to learn a lot about yourself and life in general and I just like to share that with kids.”
Motta was a college teammate with Stoeling for one year. Stoelting, who has conditional LPGA Tour status, has donated money back to First Tee of Lakeland in the past.
“I love working with kids and teach them a sport I grew up playing is a fun way to give back to the community.” said Big Break Florida cast member Stoelting. “Kids are so fun to hang out with and hopefully if me being here touches just one of them to pursue a dream in golf that’s a nice thing.”
The juniors at the First Tee of Lakewood had a chance to work on the driving range and putting green with Motta, Stoelting and Yang. The junior golfers also had an opportunity to ask the professionals questions after the clinic.
