ANNIKA Academy Development Virtual Session This Week
This week marked the first ANNIKA Academy professional development virtual session of the 2014 season for members of the Epson Tour.
During the session, members of the Tour were able to interact with Annika Sorenstam and ask her questions over Skype. Sorenstam, a Hall of Famer and owner of 89 victories worldwide, shared her insights on mental training and how to set goals.
“When I heard Annika was going to have a Skype session about the mental game I figured that was a must go to because she is the best in the game,” Volvik Race for the Card No. 23 Caroline Powers said. “To hear a little bit of her insights and how she does things is invaluable.”
The ANNIKA Academy is the official elite golf training academy of the Epson Tour. At the end of the 2014 season, the ANNIKA Academy will select one Epson Tour member to receive the “ANNIKA Academy Elite Athlete Award”. The award will be given to the player who, through her performance in Epson Tour events and her participation in the ANNIKA Academy development sessions, best demonstrates the same holistic “winning approach” philosophy, which Sorenstam applied to her game during competition.
Epson Tour Players Visit Mission Health Memorial Hospital
A trio of Epson Tour players – Calle Nielson, Caroline Powers and Emily Talley – took time out of their days on Tuesday to visit the Mission Health Memorial Hospital in Asheville where the players were led around various areas of the hospital and interacted with patients and members of the staff.
This year’s tournament proceeds will directly benefit Mission Women’s Health. Mission Women’s Health provides women of Western North Carolina with all the necessary tools to keep them healthy through all the stages of life with specific services with a range of specialties and award-winning programs.
Five Epson Pros Give Back at Youth Clinic
Following their practice rounds Ashley Tait, Shannon Fish, Marissa Steen, Jessie Gerry and Ginger Howard took some time to give back to young golfers in the Asheville area.
Approximately 40 kids, ranging from kindergarten to high school, showed up as players held individual clinics and answered questions about the game of golf on the driving range at Country Club of Asheville.
Jean Chua Wins iPad Courtesy of Volvik
Jean Chua, a Wake Forest alum, was recently awarded an iPad Air courtesy of Volvik as part of the Volvik Drive Further Performance Awards thanks to her strong showing over the past six events.
In addition to the gas cards given at each tournament, Volvik will be giving a cumulative prize every six tournaments. Volvik will be giving an iPad Air to the player who has the lowest cumulative score for those six events. Players must use a Volvik ball in four of six events to be eligible for the award.
