Isi Gabsa (Munich, Germany) charged up the leaderboard this morning at Battle Creek Country Club in the second round of the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship with a bogey-free 6-under par 66 highlighted by six birdies. Gabsa will take a one stroke lead into the final round on Sunday.
“The course feels like home. With it being tree lined, you have to hit the fairways and the soft greens both fit my game,” said Gabsa. “My putting was very good today, though and I hit a couple of really close ones. Overall, it was just exciting because I was working on some stuff in my swing and I didn’t really feel comfortable about going into this weekend. It worked out pretty good, so I am happy with how that turned out.”
The former German National Team member has five top-10 finishes this season. She claimed one just two weeks ago in Albany at the Twin Bridges Championship where she finished T8 at Brook Lea Country Club.
“My mom was on the bag, and I was I think 5 over. She pretty much told me to get it together and there are a lot of holes left to play. Then the last round went well, and I was in the top ten,” said Gabsa. “Then I actually went back home to Germany for the off week. I played nine holes with my brother and that’s it. I didn't practice much, but just the time being home and seeing my family and friends, I think got me like back in a good mindset.”
