After the first tournament of the 2020 Epson Tour season, the Volvik Race for the Card welcomes its initial top-10 players thanks to their performance at the 12th annual Florida’s Natural Charity Classic.
Conquering the wind with an overall score of 10-under par last weekend, Janie Jackson (Huntsville, Alabama) holds down the top spot on the money list standings at $18,750. The eight-stroke victory was not only Jackson’s first win of the season, but also the first of her Epson Tour career now in year five. Close behind is Daniela Iacobelli (Melbourne, Florida) with earnings of $11,771 thanks to her runner-up result in Winter Haven.
Checking in at No. 3 is the trio of Lauren Coughlin (Charlottesville, Virginia), Yae Eun Hong (Seoul, Republic of Korea) and Lakareber Abe (The Woodlands, Texas), having each earned $6,867. While Abe was excited to see her name near the top of the leaderboard at the Country Club of Winter Haven, she is keeping calm and focusing on what is to come down the road.
“I’m happy with a good start, but obviously we have a long year ahead of us,” said Abe, who finished No. 89 in the 2019 Volvik Race for the Card. “I’m going to try my best to keep my head down and continue to improve each week.”
The second half of the top-10 is led by Fatima Fernandez Cano (Santiago de Compostela, Spain) and the 2018 Epson Tour Player of the Year, Ruixin Liu (Guangdong, People’s Republic of China). They both sit at $4,049 following a tie for sixth in the season opener.
“It was a great reunion to see everyone after all the hard work in the offseason,” Fernandez Cano said. “I could see my focus paying off and it landed me in the top-10 of the money list this week, but it doesn’t stop here. I look forward to seeing everyone again in a few weeks.”
Finally, Brittany Marchand (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada) and Julie Aime (Nice, France) tied for eighth to secure a $3,111 payday. Rounding out the top-10 is Luna Sobron Galmes (Palma de Mallorca, Spain), Cindy Ha (Demarest, New Jersey) and Hexi Yuan (Hainan, People’s Republic of China) as all three cashed a paycheck for $2,515.
At the end of the season, the top-10 players in the Volvik Race for the Card standings will graduate onto the LPGA Tour for the 2021 campaign.
