WINDSOR, Calif.— A total of 144 players will take on the challenge that Windsor Golf Club presents starting Friday with the first round of the second edition of the Windsor Golf Classic.
Three featured groups highlight the competition for the fourth event of the 2019 Epson Tour season.
Lee Lopez, Amy Lee, Laetitia Beck (No. 1 tee, 7:52 a.m.)
An alumna of UCLA after spending one year at Long Beach State University, Lee Lopez (Whittier, California) leads the way in this group. She was a 2015 Epson Tour graduate and 2016 rookie on the LPGA Tour, where she has played primarily since. Lopez earned Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) First Team All-American honors in 2012 as a junior for the Bruins.
Meanwhile, Amy Lee (Brea, California) is in her rookie year on the Epson Tour and continues to improve with each start. The Golden State native has finishes of tied for 48th (SKYiGOLF Championship), tied for 23rd (Florida’s Natural Charity Classic) and tied for second last week in the IOA Championship presented by Morongo Casino Resort & Spa to sit at No. 9 in the Volvik Race for the Card.
Rounding out the group is Laetitia Beck (Caesarea, Israel). Entering her third event on the Epson Tour this season, she looks to build off a tied for sixth showing in Beaumont. Beck is also the first woman from Israel to compete on the LPGA Tour—where she was a rookie in 2015—and represented her native country at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games with a tied for 31st result.
Hyemin Kim, Kim Welch, Jillian Hollis (No. 10 tee, 8:36 a.m.)
The defending champion of the Windsor Golf Classic, Hyemin Kim (Seoul, Republic of Korea) won the inaugural event in 2017 when it was known as the POC Med Golf Classic. She captured her second career Epson Tour title last year at the fourth annual Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout. Entering this season, Kim has made 121 career starts on the “Road to the LPGA” with nine top-10s and 61 cuts made.
In addition, Kim Welch (Sacramento, California) is a native to the state capital of California and not far from her hometown. The 11-time winner for Washington State University became a first-time Epson Tour champion at the 2008 Alliance Bank Golf Classic, which led to becoming a Epson Tour graduate that year. Welch has made 124 career starts since her rookie year in 2006 and captured 20 top-10s.
Finally, the most recent Epson Tour winner Jillian Hollis (Rocky River, Ohio) completes this trio. Since her Epson Tour debut at the 2018 Forsyth Classic presented by Decatur Park District, Hollis has made the cut in 11-of-15 events and finished inside the top-10 on five occasions. The three-time All-American for the University of Georgia was also an All-SEC First Team performer in 2018 before turning pro.
Julieta Granada, Andrea Wong, Spencer Warne (No. 10 tee, 12:31 p.m.)
In two starts this year on the Epson Tour, Julieta Granada (Asuncion, Paraguay) has collected two tied for second results. The current No. 1 in the Volvik Race for the Card is a past champion on the “Road to the LPGA” at the 2005 YWCA FUTURES Classic, as well as the LPGA Tour in the 2006 LPGA Playoffs at The ADT. Granada carried the Paraguay flag at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games and finished tied for 44th.
Another member of this featured group is Andrea Wong (San Francisco, California), a University of California, Davis alumna. She was a three-time All-Big West First Team selection for the Aggies and four-time medalist during her collegiate career. Now in her second year on the Epson Tour, Wong owns a professional career-best result of tied for 22nd at the 2018 IOA Championship.
Spencer Warne (Turlock, California) is a Windsor Golf Classic sponsor exemption. She was a four-time WGCA Division II All-American at Sonoma State University, including a First Team selection as a junior in 2012. In 28 career Epson Tour starts entering 2019, Warne has made 15 cuts with a career-best tied for ninth result at the 2017 Four Winds Invitational.
