Rachel Rohanna (Waynesburg, Pa.) played in the final group on Sunday at the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic and finished fourth to pocket nearly $11,000. She moved up to 13th on the Volvik Race for the Card money list and put herself in position for a full-time return to the LPGA a third of the way into the season.
“I’ve been feeling really good with my game this whole year, so I knew a good week was coming,” explained Rohanna, who won on the Epson Tour in 2015. “I’m happy it came during one of the biggest events of the year.”
Rohanna drove to Atlanta after the round and flew to Michigan this morning to compete in the newly created Great Lakes Shootout on Tuesday. She is one of six Epson Tour members - that played college golf in the Big Ten - competing for one spot in the LPGA Volvik Championship, which is May 25–28.
The 12-player field for the Great Lakes Shootout also includes five players from area colleges and one sponsor exemption, Sarah Hoffman, who played college golf at Grand Valley State in Grand Rapids.
“I’m looking forward to taking the momentum from yesterday into the shootout on Tuesday,” said Rohanna, while en route to Travis Pointe Country Club. “Being an Ohio State alum, I’m guessing I won’t have too many fans out there, but I’m hoping I can pull through with a win and stay in Big Ten country next week for the Volvik Championship.”
While Rohanna is focused on the Epson Tour in 2017, she did retain partial LPGA status so she is hoping to get into some LPGA events the remainder of the season.
Rohanna will tee off in the Great Lakes Shootout at 10:10 on Tuesday.
