Nanna Koerstz Madsen (Copenhagen, Denmark), who ranks second on the Epson Tour’s Volvik Race for the Card money list, drove up to Trump Bedminster last week to compete in the U.S. Women’s Open and was surprised to find out that she could valet her car. It was then she realized that she was playing in the biggest event in women’s golf. While she didn’t have her best game (78-77) – and nerves my have contributed to that she admitted – the experience was valuable.
“It was the biggest tournament I’ve ever played, they took really good care of us, but it was challenging,” said Koerstz Madsen after playing nine holes in the Danielle Downey Classic pro-am on Wednesday. "I learned that I am an aggressive person, and I cannot be that at the U.S. (Women’s) Open. I was 5-over through my first nine holes. I was really nervous on the first nine so that might have something to do with it as well."
Koerstz Madsen will have a busy schedule after the Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic. She will play in the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open and hopes to play in the Ricoh Women’s British Open.
Then, she will play the final six Epson Tour events and there is the obvious goal of winning a third event.
“It would be nice to get the last victory, but we will see,” said Koerstz Madsen. “To finish in the top 10 is the most important thing. Finishing in the top five is what I really want to do.”
She tees off in round one at Brook-Lea Country Club on Thursday at 8:36 a.m.
