Nanna Koerstz Madsen (Copenhagen, Denmark) captured her third win in Rochester, New York to earn a “Battlefield Promotion” to the LPGA. While the accomplsihment is incredible, it is becoming less rare. Each of the last four years on the Epson Tour, someone has won three times (Marissa Steen – 2014, Annie Park – 2015, Madelene Sagstrom – 2016). What is rare is that Koerstz Madsen will actually get to take advantage of the Battlefield Promotion.
In each of the first three examples, the player picked up the third win a bit late in the season to use the promotion.
Koerstz Madsen told EpsonTour.com this week that she will play in the next three LPGA Tour events following the Solheim Cup – Canadian Pacific Women’s Open (Aug 24-27), Cambia Portland Classic (Aug 31-September 3) and Indy Women in Tech Championship (September 7-9). Therefore, she will miss the next four Epson Tour events to get a taste of the LPGA.
She will then transition back to the Epson Tour and play the final two events of the season to complete her mission of earning an LPGA Tour card for 2018. The final two events are both in Florida – IOA Golf Classic in Longwood (September 29-October 1) and Epson Tour Championship in Daytona Beach (Oct. 5-8).
Koerstz Madsen leads the Volvik Race for the Card money list with $85,456 earned and is a virtual lock to finish in the top 10 by seasons end.
Through her LET membership, Koerstz Madsen is not a stranger to the LPGA. She has made seven starts in official LPGA Tour events and has made the cut in five of them including a second place finish at the 2017 ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open. Her first LPGA start came at the 2015 Ricoh Women’s British Open and she finished T21.
