Second Facebook Live broadcast delivers higher quality production
DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA, October 11, 2017 - The Symetra Tour, the official qualifying Tour for the LPGA, just completed the 2017 season and handed out ten LPGA Tour cards for the 2018 season on Monday at LPGA International. The Tour conducted it’s second Facebook Live broadcast of Monday’s final-round and the feed drew over 120,000 views on the LPGA’s Facebook page as of Wednesday morning.
The broadcast focused on the final eight groups and jumped between the final five holes. A full production truck was on-site at LPGA International and a crew of approximately 25 people helped put the broadcast together. LPGA.com content manager Amy Rogers served as the broadcast host while Gail Graham was the analyst and Golf Channel’s Bailey Mosier handled the interviews. The Facebook Live feed was produced by OKG, a production company co-founded by longtime network producer Chris Ohlmeyer.
“This was without question the most successful digital media venture in the Tour’s history,” said Chief Business Officer Mike Nichols. “It is clear that people around the world want to see more live Symetra Tour golf. The production quality was sound and players, viewers and families around the world provided positive, encouraging feedback.”
Between the final-round and the LPGA card ceremony there were over 170,000 views on Facebook. The two feeds reached over 500,000 people.
The finish of the final-round was exciting as Rachel Rohanna edged Yu Liu for her second Symetra Tour victory. Then, the top ten on the final Volvik Race for the Card money list received their LPGA cards during a ceremony at LPGA International.
“This was our first year taking a swing at Facebook Live and I think we’ve found something,” said Nichols. “Like anything new, we will analyze what works and what needs tweaking and we’re eager to take more swings in 2018.”
