Tale of Two Seasons
Inside the top-10 in five statistical categories, one win and four top-5 finishes in 12 events, and second on the season-ending Volvik Race for the Card standings combine to make up an impressive year for Cali, Colombia native Paola Moreno.
One of the most experienced players on the Epson Tour, Moreno turned professional in 2009 and qualified for the LPGA Tour on her second attempt after a 23rd finish at the 2009 LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament.
Playing in her third season on the LPGA Tour, Moreno struggled as she failed to make a cut in any of the three events in which she played. While Moreno had a lackluster year on the LPGA, it was quite the opposite on the Epson Tour.
Moreno first broke into the Volvik Race for the Card top-10 in Week 5 after her second consecutive third place finish at the Ladies Titan Tire Challenge propelled her into the sixth spot. She then went on to fall to No. 8 the following week after not playing in the Tate & Lyle Championship.
The University of Southern California alum then fell completely outside the top-10 for a lengthy four weeks but broke back in at No. 9 after a T4 finish at the Four Winds Invitational in Week 11. She then solidified her spot in the Race after she recorded her third-career victory at the Eagle Classic in Week 12 and jumped to No. 3 in the rankings.
Moreno narrowly missed capturing her fourth-career victory after losing in a playoff at the Vidalia Championship and ended the year No. 2 in the Race.
Look for Moreno to build off her positive momentum she gained on the Epson Tour and continue her impressive play on next year’s LPGA Tour. Moreno has the complete game to compete with the best female golfers in the world as she finished second on the Epson Tour in scoring average (71.94), fifth in putting average (29.56), sixth in driving accuracy (83%) and greens in regulation), and eighth in putts per GIR (1.82).
