Over the next 12 days leading up to the new year, symetratour.com will count down the top-12 most memorable stories of the tour’s 2012 season. Coming in at No. 3 are new title sponsors named.

New title sponsors named, others increase support 

Symetra, Guardian sign on for tournament sponsorships in 2013; Symetra to start player sponsorships

After another successful season both on and off the course in 2012, it was no surprise the Tour brought on another tournament title sponsor and increased the terms of the partnership with umbrella sponsor, Symetra, before the new year. The No. 3 story for 2012 goes to new sponsorship announcements. 

The Symetra Tour welcomed The Guardian Insurance & Annuity Company, Inc. to the family in October when the organization signed a two-year agreement to become the title sponsor of the Tour’s event based in Sarasota, Fla. The Sara Bay Classic was an inaugural event in 2012 and will become the Guardian Retirement Championship at Sara Bay for the next two seasons. The tournament will again be held at Sara Bay Country Club April 22 – 28, 2013.

"The addition of Guardian to the Symetra Tour family only strengthens what was a tremendously successful inaugural event at Sara Bay last year,” said Symetra Tour Chief Business Officer, Mike Nichols. “We are excited to return to Florida's Gold Coast again next April and are proud to have Guardian join us there as the newest partner in the family."

After its first full year as the umbrella sponsor of the Road to the LPGA, Symetra announced in November that it would not only title sponsor its second event on the Tour’s schedule but will also implement a new player sponsorship program starting in 2013. 

Nichols joined Symetra Vice President, Sales and Distribution Rick Lyons and Symetra Tour Player of the Year Esther Choe in Naples, Fla. at the LPGA’s season-ending, the CME Group Titleholders, to make the announcement.

The Bellevue, Wash.-based life insurance company signed a multi-year agreement securing the naming rights for the Tour’s season-ending event, the Symetra Tour Championship (formerly the Daytona Beach Invitational). Symetra will continue to be the title sponsor of the Symetra Classic, held in Charlotte, N.C.

In addition to increasing its tournament support in 2013, Symetra will offer two players who earn their LPGA Tour cards — the Symetra Tour Player of the Year and another player of Symetra’s choosing — with $25,000 endorsements.

“We had such a successful first year with Symetra as our Tour’s umbrella partner, and we are excited to deepen our relationship,” said Nichols. “It’s wonderful to have a partner that is so fully invested in both the Tour and the players who will be making their way onto the biggest stage in women’s golf.”
