Counting down the Symetra Tour's top 12 stories in 2012: No. 11

Over the next 12 days leading up to the new year, symetratour.com will count down the top-12 most memorable stories of the tour’s 2012 season. Coming in at number 11 is the winner of the Eagle Classic gaining entry into the Kingsmill Championship.

This year, the Kingsmill Championship displayed support for the Symetra Tour – Road to the LPGA and provided the winner of the Eagle Classic entry into the LPGA event.

The exemption further amplified the Symetra Tour’s mission to prepare its players for a successful career on the LPGA Tour. Since the Symetra Tour began in 1980, 2012 marked the first time the Symetra Tour awarded 10 fully exempt LPGA Tour cards to the top-10 on the season-ending Volvik Race for the Card.

Playing with an exemption on the line, the final round of the 2012 Eagle Classic provided a dramatic finish that came down to the final putt to determine the winner. Paola Moreno shook off a two-shot deficit on the 14th hole to go on to birdie three out of the final four holes to clinch the victory over Jenny Gleason.

The win not only secured Moreno’s second career Symetra Tour win but earned her a coveted spot in the LPGA’s Kingsmill Championship.

Moreno, also a member of the LPGA Tour, played in a total of two events on the LPGA Tour in 2012 and missed the cut at both the Kingsmill Championship and U.S. Women’s Open.
