Moving Day at the Casino Del Sol Golf Classic lived up to the name and more. The round one leader, Julie Houston, was the only person who signed for a 67 during the first day of play, but on day two at Sewailo Golf Club, 15 players were able to card a 67 or better to move their way up the leaderboard. Among those rounds turned in were two players now tied for the lead and in search of their first Epson Tour win, while some past Epson Tour champions sit just a couple of shots back.
Madison Young tied the low round of the day and of her career in the second round of the Casino Del Sol Golf Classic. The 27-year-old signed for a 7-under 65, making six birdies, an eagle, and a bogey on her way to the top of the leaderboard. Young shot a 4-under 32 on her closing nine holes in her first round, and on day two, she matched it, nearly rolling in a seventh birdie on her 18th hole. The Georgia native is making her third appearance at the Casino Del Sol Golf Classic, making the cut last year in Tucson, but her first two rounds this year have been the lowest two scores of her career at Sewailo Golf Club.
"This is my third year here and I feel like my game is in a really good spot," said Young. "I just tried to trust everything I was doing and commit to every shot, and then it got windy, so you had to, or else it was going to go downhill."
Beatrice Wallin joins Young at the top of the leaderboard after turning in a 6-under 66, two shots better than her first round despite the tougher afternoon conditions. The Swede opened her second round with five birdies in her first nine holes, making the turn at 5-under on the day. A steady back nine was all Wallin needed to join Young in the final pairing of the day, making a bogey and two more birdies to finish her round.
"It was my putter that did most of the work today. But it felt really good," said Wallin. "I had to tell myself to trust my swing, trust my target, which is, like, kind of scary. Especially with some of these holes because they are kind of narrow. If you miss left, you're in the water; if you miss right, you're in the desert. So, it's like you really have to commit to what you got. And I feel like I did that very well today and it was all a lot of fun."
The final round will start tomorrow at 7:00 a.m. MST, with the leaders going off at 12:50 p.m. MST.
