The field beat the darkness in round two at the IOA Golf Classic, while Moving Day lived up to its name. Each player in the top 3 signed for a round of 66 or better in their second round, with Lindsey McCurdy leading the way by one shot after 36 holes.
McCurdy started her day one shot back of the leader after opening her tournament with an impressive 5-under 66. The Southern Methodist University alum would one-up herself in her second round, carding a 6-under 65 that included eight birdies.
The round really started to pick up on the ninth hole for McCurdy, who would make birdie on the tricky par 4, with four more birdies in a row following hole nine. A double bogey on 16 would bring the round to a halt for most, but the 28-year-old rolled in a long birdie putt on her last hole of the day to give herself a one-shot cushion heading into Sunday's final round.
"Honestly, today I didn't feel like I was hitting the ball quite as well as I did yesterday," said McCurdy. "But the putter was on, so that was definitely a good feeling. So, making the turn, I kind of had a good feeling about coming in and making a few birdies, and I think I made five in a row at one point, which definitely was a good feeling. I felt pretty confident after that."
Dewi Weber will be in the last group with McCurdy come Sunday afternoon after posting a 5-under 66. The Netherlands native was perfect through her first 28 holes, recording eight birdies and zero bogeys in that span before making her first bogey of the week on her 29th hole. Weber bounced back the way most great players do by making three more birdies over her remaining seven holes. Despite it being a while since Weber has been in a final group pairing, she feels confident about where her game is and is ready for any outcome.
"My ball striking again was good. Honestly, the bogey that I made, like, I made a really good swing, and I got the wind and kind of blew it to the right and got in a kind of crappy lie. So, like, it happens. Can't be mad about that," explained Weber. "To be completely honest, it's been a while since I've been in the last group. But I think the plan is just the same as the last two days. It's trying to be really patient, trying to do the things that I need to do, which make me play good golf and giving myself those opportunities. We'll see if that ends up being good enough for this week or not. And if not, then we move on to next week and we try again."
